To the right is one of the "venues" of Saddleback Church. Notice the dry ice fog, lights, stage, and Rock Concert Atmosphere. Definitely a "non-offensive" environment. Neither hot or cold. Any non-believer certainly would feel right at home here. But that is not the point of this article.
How will the "Seeker-Sensitive, mega-church" filled with "non-believers" weather the Recession/Depression which is coming upon us? How will they support the massive building programs, huge staffs, and marketing programs which have been developed? As with any "large corporation", and don't be mistaken - these institutions are large corporations, they will have to make hard choices concerning their fiscal solvency. As times get tough, the giving by non-believers and those believers who are carnal will diminish. All that will be left are those who walk daily with our Lord and Savior. This will greatly constrict the coffers of these "mega-churches".
I imagine many of these organizations carry debt to fund the continual building programs which they have as a memorial to their greatness. In a Recession, debt is the enemy. These programs did not read the Torah concerning borrowing. We are really not suppose to carry any debt. A debtor is a slave to the creditor. Many churches, including many "non-seeker sensitive" churches, carry debt to finance their building programs. In every Church I have been a member in, any time a building program was proposed, I have vigorously resisted the call to borrow to finance the building of the Church. A church should not carry debt. If the members cannot provide the funds out of their pocket to build then the Church should not build a new facility.
Many, many of these facilities are going to experience very difficult times in the coming years due to the drying up of their funds. An unwise man builds a house on a foundation of sand. When the rain comes, and the wind blows, the house will fall. Those who build their house on a foundation of the Rock, the house will survive the storm.
Pulling back the curtain on Tomorrow so that the Church can Repent today before it is too late.

Why would you automatically assume that all "Mega Churches" (what exactly does that mean anyway?) carry large amounts of debt? I know of 3 very large churches in my area (1500 membership, 5000 membership, and 18000 membership) that carry no debt or only secured debt to the level of their equity in said property (which really isn't debt at all).
