U.S. Government is stock piling Food

Why is the U.S. Government stockpiling canned goods, freeze dried food, and non-perishable food stocks? There is no question that this is currently happening. The sudden surge in Government Purchases has created shortages in availability of these items. It seems that the Federal Government knows something is coming and is preparing itself for it. Every family should have at least 3 months of food and water on hand in a safe place. It would also be advisable to have the same amount of cash on hand given that it appears that our country will be facing a massive banking collapse after the elections. I know I sound alarmist but it is better to be safe than hungry.
